Council Member Kathy Landing was elected to Mount Pleasant Town Council on November 2017.
As a Certified Financial Planner and Senior Vice President, Investments with Raymond James and Associates, Council Member Landing has 32 years of experience in finance. She started her business here in the Lowcountry while her husband of 33 years, Joe served as a US Naval Officer and later, a Branch Manager with Raymond James. A Who's Who of International Business and Professional Women, Kathy is a member of American Mensa.
Council Member Landing has served her community over the years through many organizations, most notably Operation Smile, which provides children in need with major and potentially life-saving surgeries throughout the world. She has volunteered with the Carolinas Chapter for 20 years, served on the Board for 18 years, and was Board Chair for eight years. Additionally, Kathy has served as Education Chair and currently Treasurer for the SC Society of Mayflower Descendants. She and her husband Joe are active members of Hibben United Methodist Church, where she served on the Finance Committee and volunteers as a substitute organist. They are also members of the Scottish Society of Charleston, which raises funds for the Ronald McDonald House and the Charleston Seafarers. She is a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Charleston, having served on the Board as Treasurer during her Active years.
Council Member Landing was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, moved to New Jersey with her father's job transfer at the age of three, and to North Carolina at the age of 13. She skipped her senior year of high school to attend Duke University at the age of 16, and met her husband Joe there. Graduating from Duke in 1983, she later attained a Master of Science in Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning.
Kathy and Joe have two children, Kristie and Joseph, both of whom attended Cario Middle and Wando High School. Kristie graduated from Duke in 2013 and just finished her Masters Degree at Sotheby's Institute of Art in London. Joseph is a senior at the University of Miami, double majoring in Motion Picture Film Production and Media Management. The Landings moved back to the Lowcountry in 2003 and live in Dunes West.
