MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (June 5, 2015) - The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the PCL Civil Constructors/ICA Engineering (PCL/ICA) Design Build Team are replacing the SC 41 swing span bridge over the Wando River and adding a “T” intersection at SC-41 and Clements Ferry Road.
Bridge Replacement UpdateNow that the design plans have been released and the southern trestle is in place, construction has begun on the replacement bridge’s first foundation shafts.
Each drilled shaft foundation is embedded nearly 100’ into the ground and rises to the water’s surface. After the new bridge’s 30 foundation shafts are set, columns will be constructed on each shaft to support the new bridge.
Within the next month, crews will begin to work on the north end trestle and begin to mobilize marine equipment. Eventually, as work progresses, there will be three crane barges on the water constructing the new bridge.
Roadway Work and Intersection ImprovementsClearing and grubbing activities are nearing completion with utility relocation activities commencing shortly thereafter.
