MOUNT PLEASANT, SC ( October 6, 2017) - Based upon post-improvement observation of traffic flows at the intersection of SC 41 and Joe Rouse Rd, the Town will implement revised laneage and signal timing beginning Monday, October 9. This is an effort to achieve more uniform flows in the morning peak period.
The use of the additional SC 41 southbound through-lane has resulted in more downstream traffic than the merge area can process. It is creating backups through the intersection in the morning. This potential scenario was recognized during the design stages, but since the additional lane was created by simply remarking the approach, designers felt the potential to increase capacity was worthwhile - knowing that returning to the single lane approach was easily accomplished if too much throughput was the result.
As such, the outside through-lane on the approach to the signal will be closed to perform observations and develop signal timings that will not overburden the merge point. The Town appreciates your patience and cooperation during this process.
