MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 16, 2018) – Spring is just around the corner and with it comes the return of the Town of Mount Pleasant’s Farmers Market! Applications for the 2018 season are now available for farmers and food vendors.
Prospective vendors must submit applications to the Town of Mount Pleasant by February 2. Applications along with market rules and regulations are available online at ExperienceMountPleasant.com. Local farmers are given first priority.
The 2018 season runs from the first Tuesday in April through the last Tuesday in September and includes approximately 40 vendor spaces. The Town of Mount Pleasant offers a traditional farmers market allowing only food vendors and farmers (no artisans or craft vendors).
“We are looking for farmers and vendors who are dedicated to bringing wholesome, diverse, healthy and affordable products to our community,” said Farmers Market Manager Tracy Richter.
In its 21st year, the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market attracts locals and visitors to explore a unique assortment of fresh local fruits, vegetables, seafood, baked goods and freshly-prepared meals. With live music and free children’s activities, this weekly community-oriented event is more than just an outdoor market.
Farmer applicants must grow products from seed propagation or plugs and harvest them for sale. The Town of Mount Pleasant Farmers Market does not accept brokers (participants who have bought produce, plants, or flowers from a grower and do not grow anything themselves).
Food vendors include any persons who sell processed food. This includes but is not limited to all food not grown or sold in its original state such as jams, sauces, nuts and ice cream. All food vendors must be in compliance with DHEC rules and regulations and food items prepared for sale must have been prepared in a DHEC-approved kitchen. A DHEC officer will approve all food vendors.
All vendors are selected by the market manager and the Farmers Market Advisory Board. For more information about the 2018 Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, or to download an application, visit ExperienceMountPleasant.com or e-mail Tracy Richter at farmersmarket@tompsc.com.
