Get ready for the 13th annual Sweetgrass Festival taking place at the Mount Pleasant Waterfront Memorial Park June 2, 2018, from noon to 4 p.m.!
Deeply rooted in heritage, the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Association promotes Gullah culture, heritage and traditions by celebrating the creativity of sweetgrass basket makers and the Gullah people's history.
Events
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. activities, programs, events and entertainment will provide a family fun environment designed to interpret, promote, engage, entertain and expose festival attendees to the Gullah peoples' history, culture, heritage, handmade arts/crafts, and sweetgrass basket making demonstrations by Henrietta Snype. Admission and parking is free. No pets, skateboards or alcohol, please.
Festival live performances start at 11 a.m. and performers include Brian Birchfield, Gospel Country Singer, Bill DuPont, Blues Singer, Devon Gary, Saxophonist, Divine Harmony, Gospel Group, Gloria Barr-Ford, Gullah Story Teller, Chaquis Maliq, One Woman Band, Secret Band, R & B, Adande African Drummers and Dancers, and The Dubber.
There will be children activities to include a Jump Castle and water slide. Charleston County Library, Children's Museum of the Low country and South Carolina Aquarium will be on hand to provide an assortment of educational fund activities for children to engage in.
Local restaurant and food vendors will be providing a variety of delicious low country food items to include fried fish & chicken, BBQ ribs, seafood rice, jerk chicken kabobs, French fries, alligator bites, fried crabs and shrimp, boiled peanuts, bread pudding, ice cream cones, fresh fruits, funnel cakes, beverages and much more!
