MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Oct. 12, 2018) – Fall has arrived, which means family fun is around the corner at the 31st Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival presented by Publix at the Park West Recreation Complex on Sunday, Oct. 21 from noon to 5 p.m.
Admission and all activities are free! Families will enjoy carnival and pony rides, live entertainment including an incredible bike stunt show, giant inflatables (life-size hamster track anyone?), games with lots of prizes, face painting, a petting zoo, and much more!
Free parking is available next to the complex at Cario, Charles Pinckney and Laurel Hill schools, as well as the office complex where Kid’s Teeth is located at 1130 Professional Lane. A sidewalk provides easy walking access from the schools, and shuttle buses will run throughout the event from all parking areas. The only public parking available at the recreation complex is for those with disability plates or placards.
“Children’s Day gives parents time to be kids again, where they can enjoy free family fun and lots of laughs with their children,” said Special Events Manager Nicole Harvey. “Sponsors, schools and local nonprofits offer a wide variety of activities and carnival games that offer us a trip down memory lane while also creating new memories.”
Local and professional artists, dance and gymnastics academies, karate schools, and cheerleading squads will entertain festival-goers throughout the event on the East Cooper Medical Center stage and the field performance area.
Highlights will include a bike stunt show by one of the country’s top trials riders, Robbie Pfunder, plus the amazing unicyclist and juggler Mark Lippard, King of Kazoo Rick Hubbard, and lots of mascots.
Mount Pleasant Waterworks will set up its popular obstacle course, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department will have fire trucks and a smokehouse on display, the Mount Pleasant Police Department will offer crime prevention and safety items, and the Mount Pleasant Public Services Department will have an equipment display.
“Our whole community – children, parents, volunteers and businesses – works together every year to make this a wonderfully unique, fun-filled day,” said Harvey. “Children’s Day would not be possible without all of our generous sponsors along with loyal volunteers.”
Publix Super Markets returns for its third year as Presenting Sponsor. East Cooper Medical Center returns for its 14th year as the Stage Sponsor. Media sponsors include News 2, Y102.5 FM and Charleston Regional Business Journal. Brian Cleary from the Y Morning Wakeup will serve as emcee.
Concessions will be sold by a variety of food vendors and will benefit participating East Cooper schools, including Charleston County School of the Arts, Charles Pinckney Elementary, Christ Our King/Stella Maris, James B. Edwards Elementary, Jennie Moore Elementary, Laurel Hill Primary, Oceanside Collegiate Academy, and University School of the Lowcountry.
