Public Services Dept. updates post storm garbage pick-up schedule

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Oct. 9, 2016) - The Town of Mount Pleasant Public Services Division will resume normal garbage collection Monday. Coordination with Charleston County for vegetative debris removal is ongoing, and we ask the community to be patient as debris removal could take several weeks to complete due to high volumes.

The Public Services Department provides general services that enhance the quality of life, safety, and health of the residents of the Town of Mount Pleasant. The department is comprised of 125 employees working in several divisions:


This division manages all department administrative functions, operations, and documentation.  

Sanitation Division

Responsible for weekly curbside garbage and trash collection, the town also operates a used oil and oyster shell recycling program. Recycling services are provided by Charleston County.

Facilities and Grounds Division

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of town buildings and park facilities, this division also performs the landscaping and upkeep of town recreation complex fields, streetscape along primary roads, and supports all town special events. Please note that they do not maintain subdivision landscaping. To report primary roads in need of mowing or clearing service report your concern.

Streets Division

Responsible for most street repairs, street sign maintenance and installation, sidewalk repairs, this division also assists with the construction of stormwater and other capital projects. This division does not perform the maintenance of the stormwater system. To report roads in need of pothole repair service, damaged sidewalks, missing street signs report your concern. 

Many roads in the town are owned by the Highway Department or the County. Service requests for these areas will be forwarded to the appropriate agency for review. New sign requests or any sign modifications to specialty signs within nieghborhoods need to be sent to the Transportation Department  for consideration and review.

Stormwater - Water Quality Division

Responsible for the maintenance of town storm drainage system, this division works to minimize flood damages and pollution impacts from our municipal drainage system.  The division also manages the town’s Water Quality Protection Program.  Please visit our pages for more information.
