American Red Cross Classes
The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department has offered a wide range of American Red Cross certification classes since 1992.For information visit or for local information. All materials for American Red Cross can be purchased at or downloaded from

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
This course teaches individuals advanced rescue skills, how to prevent aquatic emergencies and the proper conduct expected of a professional lifeguard.  Trainees must pass skills tests for certification. Attendance is mandatory at all sessions.  Course Prerequisites (will be tested during the first class).
  • 15 years or older complete 300 yd swim using front crawl and breaststroke.
  • Recover and swim 25 yards with 10-lb. object. (goggles may not be used in this event)
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.

Water Safety Instructor
Become American Red Cross certified to teach swim lessons. Must be 16 year of age and able to swim at least 25 yards of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and able to dive. This class is designed to serve a variety of purposes including providing stroke technique, improving teaching skills and developing lesson plans. For materials visit Min. 5 Max. 10

Park West Pool
Course Prerequisites:
16 years of age or older
Successfully complete the online orientation session
Successfully complete pre-course test and swimming skills.

Safe Sitter
Safe Sitter is a national nonprofit organization devoted to preparing young adolescents for the responsibility of nurturing and protecting children. This is a one day class for ages 11- 14. Students will learn babysitting as a business, success on the job, child care essentials, safety for the sitter, injury management, preventing problem behavior, and care of a choking child. Materials will be supplied. Students should bring lunch, snack and a drink. This class replaces the Red Cross Babysitting class.

The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department offers all different levels of swim lessons from toddler to adult lessons.

Swim lesson guidelines:
All ages listed below are only used as guide lines. Participants should be placed accordingly to ability.

Pre-school lessons: (3-4yrs. ONLY)  Introduction to water skills   
Learn to Swim Level 1:  (5+yrs)  Basic Water Skills / Beginning swimmer  
Learn to Swim Level 2:  (5+yrs)   Fundamental Aquatic Skills / advanced beginning swimmer
Learn to Swim Level 3:  (5+yrs)  Stroke Development / Intermediate Swimmer
Learn to Swim Level 4:  (5+yrs)  Stroke Improvement / Advanced swimmer
Learn to Swim Level 5:  (5+yrs)  Stroke Refinement / Advanced swimmer

We offer a variety of water aerobic classes at both R.L. Jones Center and Park West Pool.  below are all the classes that we offer. Come and try any of our classes FREE the first time you visit!!

Aquatic Exercise Classes at the RL Jones Center

Cost: $50 resident/$80 non-resident the pass is good for 10 classes and has to be used within 6 months of being issued. FIRST CLASS IS FREE!

Advanced Water Fitness
Experience a total body workout through this advanced deep water class. The class includes cardio, core and balance, muscle strengthening and stretching work outs.

Arthritis Exercise
Participants are guided through a series of movements geared to reduce the pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. With the aid of water’s buoyancy and resistance, participants can improve flexibility, strength and range of motion. Swimming skills not required.

Water Aerobics
Water exercise is a great way to achieve a well-balanced and complete workout. Shallow water routines increase cardiovascular endurance while deep water routines strengthen muscles and improve coordination. This class, performed 2-3 times a week, will help you achieve a healthier lifestyle and can help decrease the stress of everyday living.

Power Aquatics
Experience a high intensity water workout that will burn plenty of calories and give your body tone and definition. No more sweating and exercise machines. Fin for the ultimate leg work out every Wednesday.

Calorie Burners
This medium intensity work out is done in shallow or deep water. The class focuses on cardio to burn calories, muscle building and balance, and core strength through target exercise and yoga.

Aquatic Personal Training
Whether you are a beginner or an athlete, we can help you work to achieve your goals. Get more gain for less pain. We will utilize the water to create a balanced and enjoyable workout just for you. Aquatic equipment may be used. Excellent for cross training and/or rehabilitation.

Aquatic Rehabilitation
Gentle, progressive water exercise may greatly benefit people in pain because water supports and protects the joints. Water also allows for quicker healing processes and pain free restoration of function to help more people return to activities of daily living, work, and recreation. Aquatic rehabilitation is also an option for clients who are unable to participate in land-based exercise due to recent surgery, acute orthopedic or neuromuscular injury, rheumatologic disease, or neurological impairment.

Park West Exercise Classes

Hydropower is a fun and challenging water aerobic fitness program that gives all participants the opportunity to achieve their fitness goals. This aquatic fitness class includes mostly shallow water exercises designed for any level of conditioning, from rehabilitation to sports conditioning. All fitness levels welcome.

Morning Oxygen Water Fitness Group
All deep water exercising (buoyancy belts & water equipment provided), 50% core, 50% cardio, 100% arm work & 100% fun! No stressful impact on joints & bones but receive beneficial resistance strength training for muscles & bones from water resistance.

H20 Hydro Go
An upbeat, shallow water class that focuses on fluid strength and aqua cardio conditioning. All fitness levels welcome!

  • Refunds: A $10 processing fee will be charged for each participant's request for refund. Refund requests received up to five business days before the start date of the activity will be considered minus a $10 processing fee. Requests must be made by an adult 18 years or older.
  • Transfers: A $10 processing fee will be charged for all transfers. Transfer requests received up to three business days before the activity start date are transferable minus a $10 transfer fee. No transfer requests will be honored after such time. Requests must be made by an adult 18 years or older.
