Maritime Port District Transportation Improvements

MARITIME

View project synopsis here.

Description

The Port District Economic Development Study provided a comprehensive assessment of the assets in the port area, as well as an action plan of the enhancements needed to better leverage those assets. This project may include the implementation of additional infrastructure, connectivity, signage, lighting, landscaping, etc. The overarching goal is to create a dynamic district centered around the Port’s commercial activities. The Town of Mount Pleasant recognizes the significant economic development opportunity in the relocation of the South Carolina Ports Authority headquarters to the Wando Welch Terminal. The Town seeks to create a favorable and impactful experience on Long Point Road between the Wando Welch Terminal and I-526.

The project consists of developing intersection alternatives to improve traffic flow and enhance safety at the intersection of Long Point Road and Wando Park Boulevard and Long Point Road and Shipping Lane. The proposed improvement alternatives may include additional turn lanes and potential connection between Shipping Lane and Wando Park Boulevard. This project will also provide connectivity improvements for bicycles and pedestrians.
