Whipple Trails Segment

Project Description

Whipple Trails is a proposed 10ft to 12ft multiuse path that will connect Long Point Road to Mathis Ferry Road. This trail will connect to the existing 8ft multiuse path along Mathis Ferry Road and provide separated facilities for non-motorized uses helping to connect to destinations like Lucy Beckham High School, the Town's Tennis Facility, Seacoast Church, and the adjacent neighborhoods. The path will provide opportunities for recreation, education, and highlight historical and cultural facts about this portion of Town through a potential 13 acre linear park.

Project Status

Staff has received approval from Charleston County’s Greenbelt program for the funds necessary for right-of-way/easement purchases based on the preliminary alignment. Staff is currently working with our consultant to begin the design of this trail segment including survey, utility coordination, and drainage investigation. That design process will include public input opportunities related to trail alignment and park features. More information on those public meetings and online survey opportunities will be coming soon.
