DescriptionThe National Drive Trail is currently in the design phases and has been broken into several segments with the first running along National Drive from US 17 to Egrets Pointe Drive. The alignment is proposed on the west side (Charleston National Golf Club) of National Drive and will provide pedestrian and bicycle access to existing facilities along US 17 and Faison Rd replacing existing sidewalk with a wider 8ft multiuse path. The project design will investigate potential low impact development (LID) drainage techniques to offset the additional impervious areas created by the path and address stormwater concerns. In accordance with the Mount Pleasant Way Master Plan the multiuse path will make an eventual connection to proposed facilities along Porchers Bluff Road at National Drive. Any right-of-way or recreational easements required through the design are intended to be pursued through Charleston County’s Greenbelt Program. We will have two public meetings: one on January 12, 2023 at Laing Middle School (2705 Bulrush Basket Ln, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466) from 6pm-9pm and the next on March 9, 2023 at Wando Branch Charleston County Library (1400 Carolina Park Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466) from 5pm-7pm. These are drop-in style meetings. Survey will be until March 17, 2023.
