National Drive Trail

Description:

The National Drive Trail is currently in the design phases and has been broken into several segments with the first running along National Drive from US 17 to Egrets Pointe Drive. The alignment is proposed on the west side (Charleston National Golf Club) of National Drive and will provide pedestrian and bicycle access to existing facilities along US 17 and Faison Rd replacing existing sidewalk with a wider 8ft multiuse path. The project design will investigate potential low impact development (LID) drainage techniques to offset the additional impervious areas created by the path and address stormwater concerns. In accordance with the Mount Pleasant Way Master Plan the multiuse path will make an eventual connection to proposed facilities along Porchers Bluff Road at National Drive. Any right-of-way or recreational easements required through the design are intended to be pursued through Charleston County’s Greenbelt Program.

A public meeting will be held April 18, 2023 at the Wando Branch Library to present National Drive Trail information.   This project is a 2,500ft segment of multiuse path that is a part of the larger Mt Pleasant Way initiative. Those who cannot attend can contact the project manager at (843) 856-3080 for more information.
