The Mathis Ferry Trail is 3.5 mile long multiuse path that will parallel Mathis Ferry Road from the Wingo Way/Johnnie Dodds Blvd Frontage Road to US 17 at Mathis Ferry Road/Venning Road intersection. This segment is part of the Mount Pleasant Way spine route and will provide safe, sustainable, and equitable alternative transportation infrastructure to the surrounding residents connecting to destinations like Lucy Beckham High School, James B Edwards Elementary School, and Charleston County’s Anna Knapp Library. The path will be designed in a way to minimize any impacts to mature trees through use of materials such as boardwalk and pervious pavement and best practices for construction will reduce any root damage and preserve the health of the tree canopy. When complete, this portion of the Mount Pleasant Way spine route will improve mobility and provide a unique recreation and commuting experience meandering through grand oaks along this beautiful and historic scenic byway. Please reference the individual segments for more information on project description, schedules, funding sources, and public input opportunities.
