Program Details


Welcome to the Town of Mount Pleasant Alternative Sports and Special Events page. We are proud to offer Wrestling, Winter Speed Training, Hershey Track, the Old Village 5K Race, and now a Co-Ed Kickball League. Wrestling is offered as a winter sport and is posted during the fall. Hershey Track is offered in the spring and is posted each January. Winter Speed Training is available for all athletes in December and January.

The Old Village 5K Race is offered to residents and visitors each year in November. More than 150 runners participate in the race throughout the picturesque Historical Old Village. This is a must for all newcomers, for seasoned runners, walkers and dogs.

 The next race is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.


The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department has proudly organized the Old Village 5K road race for many years. It starts and finishes at the historic site Alhambra Hall located in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant. Run or walk along the beautiful and scenic streets as you discover a past full of colonial architecture design and amazing harbor views. Stay and relax after the race with music, refreshments, and a raffle prize giveaway. Dogs and strollers are welcome!!

Winter Speed Program - Registration October 1 - December 1, 2023

All are welcome. Boys and girls! For ages 9-18 as of April 30, 2024. Speed training is critical to maximizing the potential of each player, but in many cases is overlooked. This is not a mandatory program for anyone or exclusive to any group of players. Your individual success will depend greatly on the individual effort given each night.

Winter Speed Program Information Sheet 


Wrestling - Registration October 1 - November 27, 2023

For ages 5-13 as January 1, 2024. Participants will learn basic fundamentals of wrestling through weekly practices. Participants will need to purchase appropriate uniform supplies to include singlet, headgear, kneepads, and mouthguard. Headgear and mouthguard are required.

Wando High School Wrestling Coach Adam Schneider and Lucy Beckham Head Coach Eric Hansen will head up the program. Sessions will be held at Wando High School and Lucy Beckham High School.  Dates TBA during registration. 

A parent meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the RL Jones Gym at 7:15 p.m.
