NEW * Elite Instruction on Fundamentals of Baseball Camp - 112BSB005
For ages 5-14 (Age is determined by child's age as of 4/30/2024)
Registration: Sunday, October 1st through Thursday, November 30th
Each camper will receive instruction on the fundamentals of baseball: proper throwing /catching, infield play, outfield play, pitching, catching, hitting, bunting and baserunning. Our goal is to have each ballplayer leave camp with an improved understanding of the fundamentals and a plan of attack on how to improve on those fundamentals.
Each camper needs to provide their own water and lunch. We will break for lunch each day at noon.
Equipment needed (mandatory): Baseball glove, bat, helmet and hat.
Equipment (optional): Cleats (no metal spikes), batting gloves, catchers equipment.
Coach David Beckley Bio:
Former Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for The Citadel Baseball Program. Beckley spent the past 16 years coaching and developing quality players for The Citadel Baseball. Over his career, Beckley has been a part of 7 Southern Conference Championships at The Citadel - 3 as a player and 4 as a coach. Coach Beckley has helped in the development of 26 professional draft picks (including 4 big leaguers) over his 16-year career at his alma mater. Beckley also had a successful playing career, graduating as The Citadel's all-time leader in hits, and games played, as well as departing as the all-time stolen base leader in Southern Conference history. These accolades recently earned Beckley a spot in The Citadel's Athletic Hall of Fame. Beckley has since moved on from college baseball but has continued coaching and developing young ballplayers through camps and youth baseball.

Instructional Baseball Program
The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department will be partnering with Pro Performance Athletics for our Instructional Baseball Program. Pro Performance Athletics instructors are looking forward to teaching our young men and women the game of baseball! If you want to improve your game in an instructional environment with outstanding instructors, this is the program for you. Sessions will start September 16th and will continue through October 11th. Sessions will be every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:00pm on the Park West #1 baseball field. Participants need to report to the baseball field on Monday, September 16th by 5:00pm. For ages 7-12. Register online or in person at any MPRD building. Registration for this program will cap out at 75 participants so make sure to register on time! Please be advised this program is for beginners only and is in a camp-based setting. No games will be played.

Developmental League
The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department is excited to announce the start of a new baseball league. The Developmental League will be played in-house only on Mount Pleasant fields. Teams do not travel. The goal of the league is to teach participants the game of baseball in a game environment. This will be a teaching league for all participants involved. All players must be evaluated for placement on a Developmental League team. MPRD staff and coaches will determine whether or not a player needs to be transferred into the Instructional Program. Practices will begin in late August with games starting in mid-September. For ages 9-12. Register online or in person at any MPRD building.

Fall Dixie League
The Fall Dixie League is designed for higher skilled players in a team setting. Games will be played twice a week Monday-Thursday. Makeup games will be played on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. Games will begin on mid-September and will continue through the beginning of November. An evaluation will be held for the placement of players on teams/leagues. Players must be evaluated and selected to a Fall Dixie League team. Not all players will be selected to a Fall Dixie League team. If you are not selected to a team, you will automatically be transferred into our Developmental League or Instructional Baseball Program based on your child's evaluation. Age Groups 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. Schedules are posted under "Schedules and Standings" page.

Spring Baseball
Registration Tuesday, January 2nd - January 17, 2024
Recreation and Dixie Baseball
Games will be played Monday-Saturday. Each participant will receive a shirt and hat. A post-season tournament will be held at the end of the regular season for all leagues. No games will be held during Spring Break; however, practices will be permitted. All stars will be selected in all leagues.
Recreation Age Groups: 8, 9-10, 11-12, 15-19
Dixie Youth Age Groups: 9-10, 11-12

Middle School Baseball Program
The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department is proud to announce they now offer a Middle School Baseball Program. Cario, Moultrie, and Laing will each have one team represented. Each team will keep up to 15 players (3 of which are pitcher only roster spots). All players must try out for the school they are zoned for publicly. Players must be in grades 6-8. The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department is excited to partner with David Beckley and John Rhodes. David Beckley is the former Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for The Citadel baseball program. He spent 16 years coaching and developing quality players. Over his career he has been a part of 7 Southern Conference titles at The Citadel. John Rhodes is Head Coach and Founder of the Diamond Devils baseball program, and a recent inductee into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame. Over 300 Diamond Devils have played Division I college baseball. 55 of John's former players have been professional draft picks, and 10 of those were first rounders! Additionally, 9 of his former players have played MLB.
