MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (February 1, 2016) - Mount Pleasant Fire Department Chief Herb Williams has announced a prescribed fire burn on the Francis Marion National Forest today and tomorrow.
The Francis Marion National Forest conducts prescribed burns from fall through spring to reduce heavy fuel buildup in the forest and protect neighboring communities from the threat of catastrophic wildfire.
“Prescribed burns present potential smoke hazards - particularly to those who may suffer from cardiopulmonary disorders or respiratory conditions such as asthma,” said Williams. “Depending on a number of factors, smoke from prescribed burns can also potentially impact traffic commute times."
