MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 4, 2016) – The Transportation and Planning and Development departments are implementing a dedicated bike lane that will extend from SC Highway 41 to Fire Station 5 for approximately 4,500 ft.
The Dunes West Bike Lane project is part of the Town’s Bike and Pedestrian Master Plan. The marked bike lane will be 4 ft. wide with an additional 1 ft. gutter section. The project will cost approximately $9,000 and involves pavement marking and sign placements.
“This project came about through our community roundtable meeting with the Charleston Moves Board. The organization provides significant input on the Bike and Pedestrian Plan,” said Transportation Director Brad Morrison.
“The Town is working to provide safe and convenient means of travel for pedestrians and cyclists. The new bike lanes along Dunes West Boulevard will improve the bicycle connectivity from the Park West Boulevard’s joint use path to SC Highway 41 and the adjacent shopping center and Rivertowne neighborhood,” said Traffic Engineer James Aton.
The project should be completed by June 30. Road road closures are not expected, but minor intermittent flagging operations may occur during construction.
