MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 30, 2016) – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) awarded the Town of Mount Pleasant with a $1.2 Million grant for a boating infrastructure project at the Memorial Waterfront Park. The project scope is part of the Phase 2 park improvements and includes the design and construction of eight transient day boat slips, 126 linear feet of side-tie dockage, and an integrated wave fence to give boaters greater stability when docking.
The grant is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program. According to the FWS announcement, $14 Million in grant funding was awarded to states to “Construct, renovate and maintain marinas and other facilities with features for transient boats (those staying 10 days or less) that are 26 feet or more in length and used for recreation.”
With an estimated cost of $14 Million for the Phase 2 park improvements, Town Council had previously decided to delay further action until additional funds were identified. “This grant allows us to begin some of the Phase 2 park improvements and provide access to the park for our boating community”, says Mayor Linda Page. “We want to thank our consultants from Applied Technology & Management (ATM) and Johnson Laschobar & Associates (JLA) for assisting us in applying for this grant” Mayor Page added. The total grant amount is $1,215,076 and requires a match of $1,264,671. Combined, the Town will have $2,479,747 to dedicate to the park improvements.
