MOUNT PLEASANT, SC ( April 18, 2016) – The Town of Mount Pleasant State of the Town Address recently won two major Hermes Creative Awards – a platinum award in the Public Relations category and a gold award in the Government category. The video showcased the many projects accomplished in 2015 by the fourth largest municipality in South Carolina. The Town Address can be viewed on the homepage of the Town website at www.tompsc.com.
“We are honored by this recognition, which highlights the work of so many,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page. “I would like to recognize the Communications Office for scripting, directing, filming and editing this video in house. This truly was a labor of love from Town employees who volunteered their talents to create the Address. I would like to thank our partnering businesses for contributing to the video; especially to recognize iconic shrimper Captain Wayne Magwood and his boat Winds of Fortune. He provided the perfect background for our grand finale showcasing Mount Pleasant Town Council.”
“The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition recognizing companies and individuals whose talents exceed a high standard of excellence and serve as a benchmark for the industry. Among the 6,000 entries received worldwide, only 15 percent won platinum and 20 percent earned gold,” said Mount Pleasant Town Administrator Eric DeMoura.
“Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and CEO of Facebook, recently told Buzzfeed News, we are entering ‘a new golden age of video’ further predicting that most content viewed on Facebook in the near future will be the daily sharing of videos,” said Mount Pleasant Communications Officer Martine Wolfe-Miller. “The Town of Mount Pleasant has embraced visual storytelling with fast-paced products that inform, educate and entertain residents on all aspects of municipal service.”
Wolfe-Miller explained that Mount Pleasant’s quest to re-invent the dissemination of public information began with a public service announcement program in 2013. The program, “made by employees for employees and residents,” created several videos and earned a Municipal Association of South Carolina’s Achievement Award the same year. The videos were filmed and produced by Town employees at little to no cost. Mount Pleasant Multimedia coordinator/cinematographer Marquel Coaxum has since filmed and edited several national and international award-wining videos.
