MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 18, 2016) - The Mount Pleasant Business Association (MPBA) is dedicated to enhancing the town’s business environment, but the organization also is all about making Mount Pleasant and its environs a better place to live. One way MPBA gives back to the community is through its scholarship program, which offers between $1,000 and $2,500 to each of four deserving students who attend a public or private school and live East of the Cooper.
The deadline to apply for an MPBA scholarship is fast approaching. The completed application package must be returned to the Association no later than May 2, 2016. Members of the MPBA Education and Scholarship Committee will study the applications, and the scholarship recipients will be notified by May 13, 2016. They will be recognized at MPBA’s May 19, 2016 meeting at the Holiday Inn in Mount Pleasant.
“Our scholarships are just one of the ways we show Mount Pleasant that we care,” said Education and Scholarship Committee Chair Mary Anna Lewis. “It’s a great feeling to know that we are helping our local students attain their dreams.”
She pointed out that the scholarships are presented based on the following criteria:
- The applicant must be a high school senior living in East Cooper
- The applicant must be enrolled in college when the scholarship is paid
- The applicant must provide three letters of recommendation
- Grade point average
- Involvement in extracurricular activities
- Involvement in community activities
- Work experience
- Financial need
- Other considerations noted in the applicant’s letter.
