MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 25, 2016) – Recreation Director Ken Ayoub recently welcomed family and friends to a Tree of Life Dedication Ceremony to honor Alfred Olivetti, a dedicated volunteer at the Town of Mount Pleasant Senior Services Center Thomasena Stokes-Marshall Building.
“The recent departure of Alfred is leaving a void hard to fill at the center,” said Ayoub. “His patience and commitment to the senior population of Mount Pleasant and his skills at sharing his computer knowledge with others was commendable. The Senior Center has lost a dear friend.”
Olivetti was born in Kansas City, MO, on Sept. 13, 1942. A graduate of Colby College, and retired Major with the U.S. States Air Force, Olivetti was a longtime member of Christ Church, Mount Pleasant. Besides helping others, he also enjoyed gardening, flying and spending time with his grandchildren.
“The Tree of Life provides an opportunity for our members to share the special memories they cherished of members or volunteers who have passed on,” said Senior Center Coordinator Sherrie Pompeii. “Each leaf serves as a permanent remembrance for today and for future generations.”
Present at the dedication were his wife of 47 years Connie Olivetti, his son Jerry Olivetti and his granddaughter Posy Olivetti. Olivetti is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchildren.
Upon unveiling the leaf commemorating the life of Alfred Olivetti, the family and friends gathered for a reception at the Senior Center.
Former volunteers and members recognized in the Tree of Life include: Pat Sharpe, Gene L Rakar and Lane Y. Ragsdale.
