MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 29, 2016) - The Town of Mount Pleasant is accepting submissions for a new public art project until May 9. Open to residents of the tri-county area, each selected artist will have his or her artwork displayed permanently in Mount Pleasant.
The artwork, to be exhibited on a specific traffic signal box in the area, must reflect the community and culture of Mount Pleasant. To apply, the artist must submit renditions of his or her work via email or in person. Selected designs will be awarded a $500 honorarium.
Presented by the Town of Mount Pleasant and the Culture, Arts & Pride Commission, this program aims to promote local artists and to encourage interaction between the creative community, local businesses and residents.
“This is the first year of the Traffic Signal Box Art Program and we could not be more excited,” says Ashley Richardson, Cultural Affairs & Tourism Officer. “This town-wide program is an innovative and thoughtful way to foster community pride.”
The project will begin in the northern section of Mount Pleasant and continue south as the program develops. Guidelines are available by emailing Ashley Richardson at arichardson@tompsc.com. To submit artwork, email arichardson@tompsc.com or drop off the proposal at 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Building A.
