MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 2, 2016) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, Mount Pleasant Councilmember and Economic Development Committee Chair Mark Smith, along with Mount Pleasant Business Association President Chris Staubes and Mount Pleasant Business Development Officer Amy Livingston met at Town Hall today to celebrate Small Business Week with the signing of a mayoral proclamation. Responsible for creating nearly two-thirds of net new jobs in the United States each year and employing more than half of all Americans, small businesses have always been a vital part of the country's economy. The proclamation reads as follow:
WHEREAS, The Town of Mount Pleasant celebrates our local small businesses and the contribution they make to our local economy and community; and
WHEREAS, every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, recognizing the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners; and
WHEREAS, more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, the United States Small Business Administration works daily to grow small businesses, great jobs, drive innovation and increase America’s global competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina supports its local businesses that create jobs, boost our local economy and preserve our neighborhoods;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Linda Page, Mayor of the Town of Mount Pleasant, do hereby proclaim May 1 – 7, 2016 as SMALL BUSINESS WEEK and by proclamation confirms our commitment to support this week in the Town of Mount Pleasant.
