MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 4, 2016) - In its latest efforts to address the growing national skills gap, Mount Pleasant-based STEM Premier has partnered with the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance to power SC Future Makers. This initiative is designed to increase the skilled workforce pipeline entering advanced manufacturing and technical-related careers.
“Through partnerships with multiple school districts, the SC Future Makers initiative is reaching young persons, parents, and educators to inform those audiences of the opportunities, rewarding careers, and proper education pathways to earn skills necessary for a technical career,” said James Richter of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance.
This public-private effort was created in response to the growing workforce challenges facing manufacturers and related fields in recruiting associates skilled in science, technology, engineering, and math.
"Technology is the great equalizer," says STEM Premier co-founder and former superintendent Dr. Donald Tylinski. "If we can break down geographic boundaries and provide young people with the ability to showcase themselves and connect with opportunities earlier in their areas and beyond - it can be a real game-changer."
While this is the first announced state-specific partnership, the STEM Premier platform already boasts over 120,000 students from 12,500 schools in all 50 states, as well as partnerships with national powerhouses such as the ACT testing company.
“STEM Premier is creating a world of possibility by being at the crossroads where students, colleges and corporations meet,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page. “There’s a real need locally and nationally to connect the dots between industry and talent, so it’s no surprise to see this innovative company taking off.”
The STEM Premier platform is a constantly evolving online ecosystem assisting all levels of STEM talent in identifying career pathways, educators in recruiting top talent, and employers in developing a stable, continuous talent pipeline. Students, age 13 or older, can create a free profile on STEM Premier’s website highlighting prospective colleges and careers, course transcripts, test scores, resumes and letters of reference, work samples, videos and more.
