The Planning and Development Department and the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office often post vacancies for volunteer boards and commissions. These volunteer boards range from the Cultural Arts and Pride Commission, for those who have a passion for public art; to the Commercial Review Design Board, where professionals are needed to help guide the design and feel of new commercial construction town wide. Commercial Development Design Review Board (2 seats)
• Seat #1 “registered landscape architect” an “expired” four-year term, from January 2015 – January 2019
• Seat #4 “at large” an unexpired four-year term, from August 2014 to August 2018
The applicant must demonstrate civic interest, general knowledge of the community, independent judgment, and availability to prepare for and attend meetings. This board reviews and approves or denies all applications for proposed new commercial developments to be located within the town of Mount Pleasant, as well as all applications for major alterations and/or additions to commercial developments. Meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m.
Historical Commission
• Seat #4 is a four-year “unexpired” term, from April 2015 – April 2019
This position is available to residents who have demonstrated cultural interest, civic commitment, general knowledge of local history, and availability to develop projects and prepare for meetings. The purpose of the commission is to promote the history and culture of the town of Mount Pleasant by creating opportunities for residents and visitors to experience and enjoy our community’s shared heritage. Duties include maintaining an official map of historical and cultural sites, public educational programs and promotion of historical areas, the historical marker program, building the town’s special collection and developing history related tourism. Applicants must be residents of the town of Mount Pleasant for at least one year. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 8:00 p.m.
