MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (September 15, 2016) - The Mount Pleasant Historical Commission is pleased to announce the creation of the Cresco Historical Stewardship Award to be presented annually to an individual, group, or organization having accomplished exemplary work in studying, preserving, restoring, or promoting the history of Mount Pleasant.
Eligible projects include the preservation or historically accurate restoration of a Mount Pleasant house, building, or historic site; the publication of books, articles, or papers focusing on Mount Pleasant's physical or cultural heritage; and the execution of activities promoting the stewardship of Mount Pleasant's physical or cultural heritage such as festivals, walking tours, historical reenactments, performances, historical arts and crafts, or archaeological invitations that meet professional standards.
The Commission will select award recipients based on the quality of the nominated project; the degree to which the project is unique or pioneering and serves as an example to encourage the stewardship of Mount Pleasant's physical and cultural heritage; and the impact of the project on the understanding and appreciation of Mount Pleasant's physical and cultural heritage.
The award—which will consist of a Cresco Medal, official Town of Mount Pleasant proclamation, and $1,000 honorarium—will be presented by the Commission to the honoree at the December 10, 2016 Town Council meeting, the 179th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Mount Pleasant.
Nominations must be completed, signed, and submitted to the Commission using the official nomination form in hard copy by Friday, October 28, 2016; individual, group and self-nominations will be accepted.
