MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Oct. 6, 2016) - The National Hurricane Center released its Hurricane Matthew public advisory notice 33 Thursday at 5 a.m. to provide updates on the status of the storm.
In the advisory the NHC said that the hurricane watch area was extended northward to the South Santee River.
Also in the report was a summary of the storm conditions. The NHC reported that reconnaissance aircraft found that Matthew was gaining strength near the northwestern Bahamas. The storm was approximately 255 miles southeast of West Palm Beach, Florida, moving northwest at approximately 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph.
Town of Mount Pleasant officials said that they are monitoring the storm’s progress and will provide updates as the storm gets closer.
