MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (November 17, 2016) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page and Mount Pleasant Town Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Park West Boulevard and Bessemer Road Roundabout Wednesday.
The ribbon cutting celebrated the opening of the newest roundabout in the Park West subdivision, and highlighted progress made on the Town’s Capital Improvement Program.
In attendance were Mayor Linda Page, Mayor Pro Tempore Gary Santos and Mount Pleasant Councilmembers Will Haynie, Elton Carrier, Paul Gawrych, Bob Brimmer, Jim Owens and Mark Smith.
“We are delighted to celebrate the completion of the Park West/Bessemer roundabout project,” said Mayor Page. “This project was important to our Long-Range Transportation Plan. We received requests from the public to mitigate this high-growth area, and we listened. This new single lane roundabout with a right turn-lane on Bessemer Road will provide safer and effective traffic flow at the intersection.”
The project was completed with the combined efforts of the Mount Pleasant Transportation Department, Mount Pleasant Waterworks, Gulfstream Construction and Stantec, with a total cost of $1.6 million in infrastructure funding.
Transportation Engineer and Project manager Paul Lykins urged caution while entering the roundabout. “It may take a little while for residents to adjust to new driving patterns,” Lykins said. “We ask that the motoring public obey all traffic laws. This will greatly help the transition for everyone to the new roundabout,” added Lykins.
