MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 13, 2017) - The Town of Mount Pleasant's Historical Commission announces the 2017 Black History Month celebrations taking place every Saturday during February. All events start at 7 pm and are free and open to the general public.
The events kick off on February 4, with history professor Donald West and Lee Brockington, Senior Interpreter at Hobcaw Barony, speaking on the Restoration time period at Friendship AME Church.
The following Saturday the Plantation Singers will be returning for their third year of spirituals singing and a talk on sweetgrass baskets at Christ Church.
February 18 features Michael Moore with the International African American Museum hosted by Long Point Missionary Baptist Church and closing out the month will be the Lowcountry Voices performing music at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on February 25.
