MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 26, 2017) – If you have paid a visit to Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page’s office recently, you have likely admired the art of Kira Talerico, whose four-piece Mount Pleasant Ocean Set is adorning the walls.
The set of distressed wood with acrylic paint and ink was chosen as part of the Culture, Arts & Pride Commission’s Mayor’s Office Art Program, which aims to promote awareness of local artists and cultivate community pride.
“Kira’s art has been a perfect addition to my office,” said Mayor Page. “Everyone who comes in admires it and every time I look up from my computer, I want to head to Shem Creek!”
Talerico moved to Mount Pleasant three years ago from Pittsburg, where she was certified to teach k-12 art before she and her husband were blessed with two sons. She grew up in Chicago where she earned a Bachelor’s degree from the American Academy of Art and then worked as a product designer for a collectibles company, which she continues to freelance for today.
“I am thankful to God every day for the opportunities He has shown me and we are continually looking forward to the ever-expanding horizon,” said Talerico.
Talerico paints acrylics and enjoys ocean life, flowers, landscapes, and really anything in nature. She finds inspiration in God, bright pretty colors, and places she’s been and life experiences.
Her art can be found locally around the Charleston area in places like Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms Marina, Lowcountry Consignments, Coralberry Cottage, StyleDwell, and Bits & Pieces.
“In a young, family-oriented culture, it’s important to have bright and beautiful pieces of art that symbolize the amazing place we live in,” said Talerico.
Talerico also painted and designed the promotional artwork and t-shirt art for the 30th Annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival presented by East Cooper Medical Center and Harris Teeter in April.
