MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (July 25, 2017) - Mount Pleasant Town Administrator Eric DeMoura announced today the appointment of Christiane Farrell to the position of Assistant Town Administrator. Farrell brings nearly 18 years of municipal planning experience to one of the nation’s fastest growing communities. “The desirability of Mount Pleasant has led to significant growth pressure, which challenges the excellent quality of life our citizens experience every day. Maintaining and protecting our quality-of-life is the single biggest issue we face as a community today and in the foreseeable future. Ms. Farrell strengthens our ability to manage growth properly," said DeMoura.
Ms. Farrell previously served for eight years as the Town’s Director of Planning and Development. She has been involved in many special projects and plans including the adoption of three Comprehensive Plans, a Master Bike and Pedestrian Plan, Workforce Housing efforts, and numerous outreach efforts that encourage and improve communication with the public.
In her new role, she will guide the development and implementation of the Town's new Comprehensive Plan, which is a community’s master plan for the future. "The final product of our new comprehensive plan may require the Town to produce growth management policies not seen before in South Carolina. If this occurs, the staff will be well-positioned to design and implement any new policies directed by Town Council,” said DeMoura.
In addition to her comprehensive plan responsibilities, Ms. Farrell will also oversee capital projects, communications, community engagement, emergency management and the town's business and tourism efforts.
“I am excited to have this new opportunity with the Town,” said Ms. Farrell. “This position brings together many varied aspects of Town government, which will allow us to better integrate our long range planning and community outreach efforts. I am grateful for Mount Pleasant Town Council and the Town Administrator’s support.
Ms. Farrell graduated from the College of Charleston with a Master of Public Administration.
She is an active member of the American Planning Association, including the South Carolina Chapter, and the Urban Land Institute. She serves on the College of Charleston Urban Studies Advisory Board as well as on the Charleston County Greenbelt Advisory Board.
Ms. Farrell resides in Mount Pleasant with her family
