Thinking about coming to the Comprehensive Plan Open House, but not sure if it’s worth your time?
Consider this: The first step in the development of a Comprehensive Plan is to study the forces and trends at work in the Town, and to identify our priority issues. This Open House, slated for Tuesday, October 17, 2017, provides the opportunity for your Town government to hear from you about what your thoughts are on the priority issues to be addressed in the Town. The intent is to create a Plan that embodies the priorities of the citizens of Mount Pleasant. There are challenging issues to be addressed, and your feedback and input are critical.
The Open House will run from 5 to 8:00 p.m., but you don’t have to be here all evening to participate. The Town’s consultants will deliver a brief explanation of the process at 5:15, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m. in Council Chambers. In between these times, staff and our consultants will be in the Town Hall Lobby collecting your thoughts on three main topics:
- Identification of places to preserve,
- Areas for potential redevelopment or other opportunity, and
- Transportation issues and opportunities.
We will be collecting your feedback to these questions using maps and comment forms. Town staff and consultants will be on hand to collect input on other issues you may have.
One thing to consider when planning your visit to the Open House is that given the ongoing construction around Town Hall, on-site parking will be limited. We have arranged for overflow parking next door at the Town Center Executive Offices, Sundrops Montessori, or Cinebarre – all within an easy five-minute walk to Town Hall. A Town shuttle bus will be running a route between Town Hall and the Cinebarre parking lot, for your convenience.
If your schedule does not allow you to attend, we will also be distributing comment forms that you can use to send in your feedback. These will be available online and at Town Hall, beginning on October 17. For these comment forms to be included and considered with the other feedback received, they must be returned to the address on the form no later than November 17, 2017.
Now is the time to share your thoughts with the Town as we begin this planning process. There will be additional Open Houses and Public Hearings in the months ahead, but this is the first opportunity to begin establishing the direction of the Plan. Start shaping the Plan now by participating on October 17.
