MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017) – The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester
Council of Governments (BCDCOG) will host an online meeting to discuss the ongoing Regional Transit Framework Plan (RTFP). The online meeting will be launched Monday, December 11, 2017, on the RTFP page at bcdcog.com/framework and will remain open for public comments through Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.
The public is invited to engage at its convenience using a personal computer or by visiting a local public library. Access to the online meeting and comment tool will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The BCDCOG commissioned the RTFP in response to the region’s 2012 future growth vision titled Our Region Our Plan. That effort developed a framework for how to manage the intense growth the region is experiencing and that is forecasted to continue over the next several decades. A component of the plan included the goal of conducting a comprehensive study of the regional transit system and including it as part of the region’s Long-Range Transportation Plan.
The eight-month RTFP will look at how we
travel across the region and where current and future development patterns are
favorable to high-capacity transit services.
“The Regional Transportation Framework Plan study is a critical part of the 2040 Long-Range Transportation Plan currently under development,” said BCDCOG Executive Director Ron Mitchum. “This plan will set the stage for how our region begins to establish an exceptional transit network based on hard data about future land use and population and employment growth.”
Meetings with key stakeholders and the
community will be crucial throughout the project. In addition to the online
meeting, there will be a community charrette and open house during the
eight-month study. Information regarding the meetings will be posted to the
RTFP project web page.
