Laing Middle School, 2705 Bulrush Basket Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466
The Town of Mount Pleasant (Town) and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) propose to construct a new roadway from Six Mile Road (S-10-921) to Hamlin Road (S-10-504), approximately parallel to and between US Highway 17 and Rifle Range Road (S-10-51). At the southern end of the corridor, the project would begin at the intersection of Six Mile Road and Sweetgrass Basket Parkway. The project would terminate at the intersection of Hamlin Road and Billy Swails Boulevard, where the recently completed portion of Billy Swails Boulevard continues to Porchers Bluff Road (S-10-51).
A public information meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Laing Middle School at 2705 Bulrush Basket Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC. The meeting will have a drop-in format with displays for viewing, informational handouts, and comment forms. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and provide comments regarding the proposed improvements. Project information, including meeting materials and comment forms, will also be available on the Town website. A formal presentation will not be given at this time, nor will formal verbal comments be taken. In the future, if an official Public Hearing is held, citizens will have the opportunity to make formal verbal comments."
The purpose of this public meeting is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss individually, with representatives from the Town and SCDOT, the proposed improvements to Billy Swails Boulevard. Another purpose of the meeting will be to gather information from the public or any interested organization regarding historic or cultural resources in the area. The purpose of the project is to enhance mobility for vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic and add capacity to the Town's transportation network.
