MOUNT PLEASANT, SOUTH CAROLINA (April 11, 2018) – At the April 10 Town Council meeting, Mayor Haynie and Mount Pleasant Town Council invited Mike Mixon to take the oath of office as new fire chief.
A 14-year veteran with the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Mixon moved up the ranks from the position of firefighter to his later assignment of deputy chief of administration. In his new position, Mixon will assume responsibilities for a department of 122 personnel and a budget of $11.1 million.
Mixon takes over from Fire Chief Herb Williams, who is retiring this summer after 32 faithful years of service to the Town of Mount Pleasant. Mixon credits Williams for creating a strong culture of succession planning and rigorous personal and professional growth.
“Chief Williams success is a direct reflection of his strength of character. As a man that came from humble beginnings his faith, honesty, and determination earned him a position as the Fire Chief of Mount Pleasant. These same qualities ensured that his tenure as Chief produced strategic improvements to the fire department. His vision created a solid foundation that will allow us to build a progressive fire department in line with the expectations of our changing community,” said Mixon.
Mixon earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Fire Administration and Prevention Technology.
