Situation:
- We are working with the South Carolina Department of Transportation as they determine the anticipated length of closure of the Wando Bridge
- The Wando Bridge Westbound lanes have experienced structural damage to a cable
- The Wando Bridge Westbound lanes remain closed to address repair
- We will share bridge information soon as we are informed by SCDOT
What to Expect:
- Heavy traffic in the region
- All westbound traffic on I- 526 is being diverted onto Long Point Road
- No traffic from Long Point Road is being allowed onto I-526 Westbound
What We Are Doing:
- Extra officers (to include MPPD, Highway Patrol and Chas County Sheriff Office) have been called to help with traffic
- Officers at major intersections are controlling the traffic lights to assist with traffic
What You Can Do:
- The most important step you can take is to exercise caution and give yourself extra time to travel
- Modify your commute time and leave early (15-20 minutes can make a big difference)
- Use alternate routes:
- Highway 41 to Clements Ferry Road to I-526
- Highway 17 south to the Ravenel Bridge to I-26
- If you are in a minor collision with no injuries, please move your cars from the roadway
- For more information, follow us on Facebook and Twitter to adjust your commute times and monitor traffic
