MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (May 17, 2018) - Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie today convened a meeting at Town Hall to coordinate efforts with South Carolina Department of Transportation, along with Mount Pleasant and Charleston personnel to work on solutions to the traffic congestion seizing the region due to the Wando River Bridge closure.
Mount Pleasant and Charleston Police and Fire chiefs, along with Transportation and Emergency Management staff from both municipalities, worked on a Ravenel Bridge ramp modification to I-26 to be implemented during peak traffic hours in the morning and afternoon. The new ramp modification is expected to begin today at 2:30 p.m. and should ease the commute of many.
“We believe that this ramp modification will promote improved traffic flow westbound onto I-26, while at the same time developing new transportation patterns until the Wando River Bridge reopens on June 11,” said Mayor Haynie.
The Town of Mount Pleasant Emergency Operations Center is activated to monitor and coordinate planning phases for the implementation of new traffic management strategies.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution while travelling on newly patterned roadways.
