MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (April 19, 2019 at 12:14 PM) - The Town of Mount Pleasant Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the National Weather Service, has announced that severe weather is expected to impact most of southeast South Carolina, including the Charleston Metro Area, today. Dominant hazards include damaging winds possibly in excess of 75 mph, isolated tornadoes, and potentially large hail.
THUNDERSTORMS: A line of thunderstorms is expected to reach the Charleston area today from 3-5 p.m. Winds will continue to increase throughout the day with higher gusts on elevated surfaces including bridges. The severe weather threat has increased for the Charleston area as these storms approach.
TORNADOS: A tornado watch has been issued for Charleston County and is in effect until 6 p.m. If a tornado warning is issued, the most important thing is to find safe shelter right way. Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls. Take additional cover by shielding your head and neck with your arms and putting materials such as furniture and blankets around you.
