MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (November
8, 2019) – The Town of Mount Pleasant today celebrated World Town Planning
Day in conjunction with similar events worldwide.
“During World Town Planning Day, we
recognize the many valuable contributions made by our dedicated professional
planners and support staff in the Town of Mount Pleasant Planning and
Development Department,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie. “We extend to
them our heartfelt thanks for their continued commitment to public service in
the field of community planning.”
“The planning process provides an
opportunity for all residents, property owners, and business leaders to be
meaningfully involved in determining the future of their own communities,”
added Jeff Ulma, Mount Pleasant Planning and Development Director.
World Town Planning Day was
established in 1949, making this the 70th year of celebration.
Today, ISOCARP, the International Society of City and Regional Planners; APA,
the American Planning Association; and its professional institute, AICP, the
American Institute of Certified Planners, endorse World Town Planning Day as an
opportunity to highlight the contributions that sound planning and plan
implementation make to the quality of settlements and the environment.
