MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Nov. 4, 2020) – The Town of Mount Pleasant Culture, Arts & Pride Commission has awarded its annual Arts & Humanities Award to Mary-Louise Moreto. This award is given to an individual or business that has made significant contributions to the arts community in Mount Pleasant.
Moreto is a collage and mixed-media artist with a background in theatre and television. She is president of the Board of Directors for the Mount Pleasant Community Arts Center where she spearheads the organization’s goal of creating a physical space in Mount Pleasant to support the performing, visual, and literary arts. She worked with town officials to set up a donor fund allowing the town to accept donations toward the effort to make this long-desired facility a reality.
“The Town and CAP are grateful for Marie-Louise’s tireless efforts to increase artistic opportunities for local and regional amateurs and professionals, promote local artists, increase the economic impact and sustainability of the arts in Mount Pleasant, and to establish Mount Pleasant as a regional arts leader,” said Nicole Harvey, special events manager and CAP staff liaison for the Town of Mount Pleasant.
Moreto is a former member of the CAP Commission where, amongst many other achievements, she helped the commission’s first mural project come to life at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department’s Miriam Brown Community Center in 2014. She also is a past president of the Mount Pleasant Artists Guild, which brought artists together to paint that same mural.
Moreto was formerly a member of the National Academy of Art and Sciences and a judge for the Emmy awards. She is retired from the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and International Alliance of Theatrical Employees.
