MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (May 10, 2021) – The Town of Mount Pleasant is now accepting applications for its 2021- 2022 Youth Council. Applications can be found on the Town's website here.
The youth council’s mission is to empower youth by providing the opportunity to serve, develop leadership skills, and grow to become engaged and responsible citizens.
“There is continued interest among the youth in our community to get involved in local government,” said Community & Government Affairs Chief and Youth Council Coordinator Lauren Sims. “This council, run by youth for youth, provides them with a platform to bring issues that matter to them to the forefront of political life and to discuss them in a stimulating and engaging environment. We invite interested students to apply online to be considered for a position on the Mount Pleasant Youth Council.”
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be a Mount Pleasant resident and currently enrolled in high school (home school included). Prospective applicants must fill out the online application no later than June 15, 2021. Candidates selected from the application pool will be contacted for an interview.
Those selected to serve on the Youth Council will serve one-year terms and will be expected to attend monthly meetings and quarterly community service projects. Monthly meetings will occur on the first Thursday of each month from 6 – 7:30 p.m., beginning August 15, 2021..
