As part of a routine, five-year cycle to maintain safety, resiliency and reliability of the electric system, Dominion Energy will begin safeguarding overhead distribution lines from hazardous vegetation along a portion of S.C. Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant.
The project will encompass approximately 2.3 miles of overhead electric lines between Dunes West Boulevard and the Wando River. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin in February.
While Dominion Energy understands and appreciates the passion surrounding trees across the Lowcountry, safety remains their top priority. Trees that have grown too close to overhead lines are both a fire hazard and an issue of employee and public safety.
Trees and tree limbs continue to represent the No. 1 reason for power outages, and trees that exceed a maximum height of approximately 15 feet are not suitable for planting along distribution rights of way or near overhead lines. Dominion Energy continues to work collaboratively with the Town of Mt Pleasant, as well as property owners, to ensure the proper planting of the right tree in the right place to help avoid utility trimming or removal as the trees mature.
Routine safeguarding of overhead facilities from hazardous, overgrown vegetation is critical to ensure a safe and resilient system and keep the lights on for all customers. Dominion Energy appreciates customers’ understanding and cooperation as they complete this critical project.
